Privacy Policy

1. What Facet Collects

Facet is a journaling app. Here is what we collect and where it is stored:

• Journal entries, mood, and tags: Stored locally on your device and synced via Apple iCloud (CloudKit). We never have access to your iCloud data.
• Achievement and streak data: Stored locally and synced via iCloud.
• Time capsule letters: Stored locally and synced via iCloud.
• Apple Health data (optional): Sleep, step count, and workout data is read from Apple HealthKit. This data is only processed on your device and is never sent to any server. Mindful session data is written to HealthKit when you save an entry.

2. AI-Powered Features

Facet uses AI (powered by Anthropic's Claude) to analyze your journal entries for mood detection, tag extraction, weekly insights, and chat features. When you use these features:

• Your journal entry text is sent to Anthropic's servers (located in the United States) via our secure proxy server for processing.
• Anthropic does not use your data to train their models.
• No personally identifiable information (name, email, device ID) is sent with your journal text.
• Responses are returned to your device and stored locally.

You can use Facet without AI features, but mood detection and insights require AI processing.

3. What We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect your name, email address, or phone number.
• We do not use analytics or tracking SDKs.
• We do not serve advertisements.
• We do not sell or share your data with third parties (except Anthropic for AI processing as described above).
• We do not track your location.

4. Apple Health Data

If you connect Apple Health, Facet reads sleep, step, and workout data to correlate with your mood in AI insights. This data:

• Is only read on your device.
• Is never sent to any external server (including Anthropic). Only aggregated summaries (e.g., "7.5h sleep") may be included in insight prompts.
• Is never used for advertising or marketing.
• Can be disconnected at any time in iOS Settings > Health > Facet.

Facet writes Mindful Session data to HealthKit when you save a journal entry, recording the duration of your writing session as a mindfulness activity.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework and optionally synced via iCloud CloudKit. iCloud data is encrypted by Apple in transit and at rest. We do not operate our own database or servers for user data.

6. Subscriptions

Facet Pro is an optional auto-renewable subscription managed through Apple's App Store. We do not process or store any payment information. All billing is handled by Apple.

7. Children's Privacy

Facet is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Your Rights (GDPR / DSGVO)

Since your data is stored on your device and iCloud (controlled by you), you have full control:

• Access: All your data is visible in the app.
• Deletion: Delete individual entries in the app, or delete all data by removing the app.
• Portability: Available with Facet Pro.
